I tried to assess the floor level today and found that the floor slopes downwards up to 1–1/4 inch on one side. I identified how much gap there is to fill throughout the entire floor before building the rest of walls.
A few days ago, I was having a blast making a lot of straight cuts, accurate to my measurement. Today, for some reasons, my cut kept veering off and I could not figure out why. I stopped cutting the lumber to figure out what is going on and ended the day without an answer. I think it must be how I am supporting the wood being cut. I will try again tomorrow and if nothing changes, I will post online on the beginner woodworking group forum and ask for advice.
Took a shot below while measuring for cutting vertical studs. There must be a more efficient way to cut multiple lumber pieces to the same length but for only 3 walls, I can put up with measuring each cut. I tried to utilize the piece already cut to mark the cut line for the next piece but it didn’t quite work well.
It was Thanksgiving Day today. I got to enjoy the free food from Lucia. She is an executive chef turned soprano. She is a resident in my town and apparently she gives out Thanksgiving meals for free to anyone who wants it. Her post on my town’s facebook group said something along the line of “anyone who is divorced, going through hardship, or too lazy to cook, new to the town and have no family”. Basically, she doesn’t care what the reason is, she is happy to give you free meals. I hesitated to reach out even though I fit into one of the categories she listed but I did in the end. I wasn’t too crazy about Thanksgiving food but part of me wanted to meet this person of incredible generosity and experience what it is all about.
It was great to have homemade delicious thanksgiving meal! I brought a 007 James Bond car lego set (Thanks to Amazon Prime quick delivery!) for her son to say thanks. After I picked up the food and got inside my car, the boy came running outside screaming “Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee!” and he caught me to say thank you.
I didn’t get to frame any wall today but that joy on the boy’s face offset the defeat.
