I started blogging on Wordpress just to capture the daily progress of my self-discovery journey. I did not intend to have any readers. I was happy to have some record for my own sake.
Then I realized how bad the free version of Wordpress blog is. The ads displayed next to every post was not only irrelevant but was awful to look at. So I moved all my posts to Medium. Once I started writing on Medium, I felt I could spend a little more extra time to polish my writing and perhaps gain followers. Again, my goal wasn’t to gain a lot of followers and monetize, but I figured, if I could spend just a bit more time to polish and open a door to having a dedicated audience, why not?
This idea has definitely impacted the frequency of my posts (there is also my injured wrist makes it uncomfortable to type). That “just a little more time” turned into thinking about the post in my head before writing and coming up with some outline before typing away and going with the flow.
One unexpected benefit of trying to put together a more complete, polished posts is I keep asking myself again and again to clarify my thoughts and messages. I type something and then I ask why I think or believe what I wrote and realize that is not what is true to me and I start over. It is in essence bringing clarity to my core values and beliefs — the drivers of my behaviors.
I revisited my previous post several times after publishing to revise. I haven’t changed as a result of writing my thoughts, but I noticed how writing is literally organizing all the different pieces of my thoughts that were intermingled and putting it in a format that is easy to browse for myself and for others. I see writing is helping me crystalize the lessons I learned and therefore makes it easy to remember them. It is easier to share my lessons with others as a bonus. It helps me experience the progress towards achieving higher self awareness.
I think everyone should experience writing out their thoughts. It’s almost therapeutic. For those who are seeking answers to complex questions, I hope you discover the magic of writing sooner than later.
