The 3rd and 4th walls are complete. The job was infinitely easier with the premium 2×4 studs that are dead straight. Right supplies make a huge difference. Between the time saving in not having to struggle to find straight pieces and the wood being more square around edges to make it easier to flush against one another, it’s worth paying 20% extra ($4.42 vs $3.75). It’s almost hard to find problematic pieces in the premium pile at HD.
The first wall frame took 5 days I think. I got frightened from not knowing what to do with the uneven floor. Coming up with the idea of building a subfloor and then wasting a lot of time trying to find straight 2x4s and then making sure joints are flush all took a lot of trial and error and having to unscrew and screw often. I put together and disassembled the wall frame probably 3 times before finishing.
The 2nd wall frame took much less time. Perhaps 1–2 day.
The 3rd and 4th frame each took about 2–3 hrs each.
I am exponentially getting better. This year is all about learning and being reminded that first try is always the hardest and you need to look beyond that to keep your faith.
